Templo 024
Ah, yes, Templo de San Servacio…this photo immediately takes me back to the plaza. It was a Saturday morning, early, before the crowds and the heat became too intense.
Ah, yes, Templo de San Servacio…this photo immediately takes me back to the plaza. It was a Saturday morning, early, before the crowds and the heat became too intense. The light was just beginning to illuminate the facade of the church and I remember being struck by the warm glow of the rising sun against the aged stone of the church.
I’ve always been fascinated by the transformative effect that time and natural elements can have on the surfaces of a building, and this particularly special wall was no exception. The rough, weathered stone, the warm terracotta hues, the subtle variations in color and tone…originally constructed in 1545, it was as if the walls were trying to tell me a story about the history of the church and the countless families that had passed through its doors over centuries of prayer and ceremony.
As I moved in with my camera to capture this section of the wall, I couldn’t help but imagine the humble hands that had thoughtfully placed each sacred stone. It’s amazing how such a simple, inanimate subject can evoke these kinds of deep thoughts and emotions.
